Additive sample QM

Hello  ,

In the page of sap we find this clarification :

" When samples are calculated, you define whether the size of the partial sample is increased by the quantity that is required for the inspection of this characteristic."

So what's the difference between sample and partial sample ?

And is this additive sample must be defined after calculation of partial samples to attend the required quantity for inspection  ?
